Father's Day is upon us again and so is the search for a present to give. There are countless reasons for opting for a bottle of wine!
Wine is always welcome and NEVER ends up in the box of things to recycle along with old picture frames and bath-foam bottles, it's always appreciated even by the dads who already have everything! If you give a good bottle, keeping in mind his tastes and preferences, the 'guest of honor' will understand the care and attention put into it as well as the display of affection it demonstrates. Or perhaps you're like me. Don't you just adore the 'boomerang' presents, the ones that you give knowing full well that the person who receives them is going to share them with you? So I'll tell you the 5 wines that I'm going to choose that won't disappoint my father (and me neither).
A party isn't a party without bubbles! Bubbles mean joy and generate a happy atmosphere. They make magic, beguile and bewitch. Right, so dad deserves prestigious bubbles and wants them robust, with weighty and complex aromas. Let's go straight for a Classic Method of pure Pinot Noir, Blanc de Noirs, a "white" spumante made from red grapes, in fact from the noblest and most elegant of grapes, Pinot Noir, aged in the bottle for 24 months. A wine of character with an extremely delicate perlage and a strong, structured body to it. From the Francesco Bellei winery, named after its founder, an iconic figure, a visionary, a man ahead of his time and who has left his mark. Here's to the unforgettable people!
We can already feel spring on the way along with the need for lively, crisp, bewitching and captivating white wines. And then ….. seeing there aren't gender rules any more and that we can quite easily give flowers to a man, why not a nice Bouquet, a bouquet of Grillo, Sauvignon and Viogner from Tenuta Rapitala? A veritable bundle of Mediterranean aromas, of ripe, tropical, sweet and even candied fruit. Everything made all the more vibrant by the freshness of green peppers, mint and thyme and full, soft and velvety sensations in the mouth. Try matching Bouquet with sushi or some classic Sicilian cooking.
It's a classic. He doesn't know anything about it until he comes home to find a case of wine done up with a bow and all the family ready to drink his health. So let's organize a surprise party with music, a lot of good food, old family recipes that warm the atmosphere and the heart and lots of glasses of a wine that's fruity, cheerful, immediate and carefree but still with a very marked character. Let's give a Chianti San Lorenzo, not one but a careful because one glass leads to another and before you know it there's a happy feeling all around. From the Melini winery in Tuscany, a wine with jam and flowery aromas and a delicate hazelnut finish!
A bottle to keep, look after, put away for an important occasion. For a dinner with sophisticated and attentive guests or simply as a treat, saying to yourself "This I deserve". And for the dads who like to hear and recount stories. Creso is an historical wine from an historical winery,
Bolla …. using a rethought-out technique, a wine made in the heart of Valpolicella from fresh Corvina but combined with dried Cabernet grapes which make it intriguing, complex, rich in aromas, soft…. a dense mixture of cherry and ripe blackberry blended together with chocolate, tobacco and spices …. a propositio Creso (Croesus) was the King of Lydia, famous for his untold wealth and for having minted gold coins …. could this mean good luck for us?
It's the classic question that every wine lover has asked themselves at least once: what's the difference between Syrah and Shiraz? The answer is none! Syrah and Shiraz are one and the same grape. Foe a long time there was the romantic idea that the origins could go back to the ancient Persian city of Shiraz but we now know that the grape comes from a blend of two very French varieties, Mondeuse Blanche and Dureza. It's the producer who decides which name to use depending on which style of wine they want to make. Shiraz, more commonly used in the New World and particularly Australia, denotes lush, rich, full-bodied wines which are more fruit-forward; Syrah looks more to its original homeland, France and the Rhone valley, revealing complexity and a strong character but it's also more restrained and elegant.
Nadir represents an intriguing enigma: created in Sicily by a French family in a territory which seems to share
many characteristics with Australia … give it as a present to someone who loves surprises and Mediterranean cooking!
